Fashion is returning to the gothic - thank god! Another designer focused his take on gothic for his new collection and to be frank, its hard to see where Wang's collection ended and this one began! Welcome to the AW collection from Prabal Gurung! I see faux fur above again - the bloggers will be delighted as they seem to love a good black shaggy fur coat!!!
I find a strange futuristic goth thing happening here. The black is the main color, but it is broken down by panels of shiny, blue material which creates an almost out of this world effect. This is combined with unusual shapes which almost challenge the proportions of the model. The designer spoke of his combining the ideas of heaven and hell to suggest the journey he went through as a designer to come to this point with the collection - this I kinda get - but I prefer the spaceship futuristic goth notion better!
There was something which suggested the all night party girl as well, this came across in the large T-shirts placed over party dresses and the mix of the sheen of the skirt above with the simple jumper before mixing with leather gloves. She looks as if she was out all night and reached for a jumper to keep warm on the 6am stroll home. This was reflected in a few other pieces as well which saw T-shirts placed with flares and flared trousers with tight fitting T-shirts from the early noughties.
love that print
What would a collection be without a few showstopping Oscar dresses? Well the color theme stayed close to the suggestion of futuristic / heaven or hell with black as the main color, metallics of bright gold, white and blue mixing together to create a powerful collection. This has definately been one of the highlight shows for me so far!!!
