Pacific Rim: Uprising knocks Black Panther out of first place as it brings in $28 million during debut weekend

Pacific Rim: Uprising, which premiered March 23, has knocked Black Panther out of first place in the domestic box office, but again Black Panther has been out for  a while. 

The sci-fi feature film brought in a whopping $28 million over the course of its debut weekend, while Black Panther brought in $16.7 million, according to AFP.

The flick follows Jake Pentecost, played by Boyega, as he tries to live up to his father's legacy as a Jaeger pilot.

The cast is currently in Tokyo promoting Pacific Rim.

While the movie has debuted domestically, the film won't premiere in Japan until April 13.
