Massimo's older brother leaves behind two children, Gabriele and Andrea. He voiced, among others, Danny DeVito, John Cleese and Dustin Hoffman

Giorgio Lopez, Massimo's voice actor and older brother, has died. He was 74 years old (he was born in Naples in 1947). He had voiced, among others, Danny DeVito  and  Dustin Hoffman (who began dubbing alongside Ferruccio Amendola in Sleepers  and Sex & Power ).

The news of his death came through the artist's Facebook page where many messages of condolence are arriving, including that of Eros Ramazzotti, Rita Dalla Chiesa and Luca Ward. He leaves two sons, Gabriele and Andrea, who are also voice actors. "Dear dad, you have been a commendable fighter, now you can run free and act in countless shows - wrote Gabriele in a Facebook post -. We loved you very much".

Even Massimo Lopez has entrusted a Facebook message: "My brother George this morning at dawn he left. He left a great artist, a great mind, a philosopher, a wise man. But he is not off, his spirit is strong, his spirit remains and will remain forever. He taught me a lot, he gave me the courage to do this job and therefore I always have it with me here in my heart. Hi Giorgio, I love you."

For now, the cause of death is not known, but the same actor, in a post published on social media in recent weeks, explained that he was suffering from "pathologies" and complained of not being able to get the anti-Covid vaccine.

The relationship with his brother Massimo

With his brother Massimo, the relationship has always been very intense: "Giorgio - he wrote him a few years ago - let him assign you a film or a series to dub, I would like to be directed by you. We did it only twice and it was a triumph. of creativity ". During the years of the Trio, Giorgio had been dubbing director for some of Massimo's works with Tullio Solenghi and Anna Marchesini.

The career

Like many voice actors, Giorgio Lopez was first of all a great actor. After graduating in Literature at the Sapienza University of Rome, in 1974, he entered the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art where he obtained his diploma. And his theatrical activity, which began as early as 1969, continued until 2016. Until he landed in directing in recent years. A career that has seen him compete with authors such as Shakespeare and Beckett, passing through Totò and dialect theater. In 2009, he won the Leggio d'oro award for directing the dubbing of the film Houdini - The Last Magician and in 2015 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Festival of Acting Voices.

Characters

It is a very long list, that of the characters to which Giorgio Lopez has given his voice: ranging from the ex-Monty Phyton John Cleese to John Hurt (in the Harry Potter saga ). And then Bob Hoskins, Joe Mantegna, Groucho Marx  (in the most recent re- doubles ) and  Pat Morita,   the legendary martial arts master Nariyoshi Miyagi from The Karate Kid saga. Not to mention the animated characters, from Baby Herman  in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?,  to the narrator of In Search of the Enchanted Valley
